Let’s have a quick look at some of the highly anticipated series. In this brief review, we’ll have a look at plot details and release dates of: Game of Thrones Season 7, Vikings Season 5 and The Last Kingdom Season 2. All these series have a slight historical shade. They are about brave legendary people both from fictional and real locations.
Game of Thrones is one of the most popular fantasy drama TV series created in present days. David Benioff and D. B. Weiss created it basing on the series of books, written by George R. R. Martin. The set of fantasy novels was called A Song of Ice and Fire. The filming was done in many locations including Britain, Iceland, Spain, Morocco, Malta and the USA. The premiere episode was released in April of 2011. The action of Game of Thrones takes place in a fictional universe consisting of two main worlds – Westeros and Essos. There are several plot lines with a number of characters’ fates intercepted. The main conflict concentrates on the fighting provoked by the Iron Throne of Seven Kingdoms. The series was prolonged for season 7 and season 8. The 8th one is going to be the last on in the project. Game of Thrones Season 7 will start in the middle of 2017 with seven episodes in total. The 8th season is planned for 2018.
The next project to review is Vikings – a historical drama TV series created in cooperation of two countries: Ireland and Canada. The creator of the project is Michael Hirst. The first episode of the first season was released in March of 2013 on History Channel. The series was inspired by legendary heroes living in England and France of 12th and 13th century. The central character of Vikings is Ragnar – a Scandinavian King that was a farmer in the past. He is unfailingly supported by his family – his brother, his son and his wives. Vikings Season 5 has already been officially announced. It will consist of 20 episodes, however the release date hasn’t been set.
The Last Kingdom is partially adapted from The Saxon Stories – novels, written by Bernard Cornwell. The premiere episode of the first season was released on the 10th of October 2015. The action of the series takes place in the end of the 9th century in England. The protagonist of The Last Kingdom is named Uhtred. He was born in the family of a noble Saxon. However, he became an orphan. Vikings captured him and turned him into one of them. When he got older, he had to make a serious choice between his family and those who raised him. The second season has already been announced. The Last Kingdom Season 2 is planned to be released in 2017. The exact date will be scheduled later. The show is often compared to the Game of Thrones for being “less silly” and “more earthy”.
Medieval atmosphere in the series became a real hit in the world of TV projects lately. Game of Thrones gained great popularity, but it’s going to get to the logical end in its last 8th season. The viewers will certainly be looking for projects like that. Vikings can become a nice alternative with its unique plot and earthy, historical atmosphere.
